Jordan Mental Health investment case launch

The Ministry of Health of Jordan, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), officially launched "The Investment Justification Study on the Prevention and Management of Mental Health Conditions in Jordan" during a key event held in Amman.

HRH Prince El Hassan, chairman of the High Council for Science and Technology, presided over the launch, stressing the need to prioritize mental health, especially in crisis situations such as wars and disasters. Prince Hassan called for the establishment of a regional mental health center for crisis prevention and a care center for war victims, addressing the long-term psychological trauma caused by conflicts.

Key attendees included Minister of Health Firas Hawari, Minister of Education and Scientific Research Azmi Mahafzah, Minister of Social Development Wafa Bani Mustafa, Minister of Investment Khuloud Saqqaf, and Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan.

The study, developed in collaboration with WHO, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the United Nations Inter-Agency Task Force (UNIATF) with the support from RHC, is an important advocacy tool to guide future mental health policies and investments. Prince Hassan emphasized the importance of human resource development, encouraging greater public participation in decision-making.

RHC provided support in developing this investment case, contributing with its technical expertise, providing economic analysis, conducting desk-based research, interviews and developing the report itself. And we are proud that our effort in developing this tool was acknowledged at the highest level and will serve for the health sector and non-health ones in prioritizing mental health in Jordan.

This launch underscores Jordan’s commitment to enhancing mental health services and addressing the social and economic impacts of mental health conditions.
